How do you become a better leader?

In order to become something better, we must understand what it is we strive for. I hope you agree with that?

There are a lot of things to consider, it’s even quite complex, but regardless, most of it should be based on common sense. Yet it is not easy and many leaders make fatal mistakes. So to get better, we need to understand what to avoid. I hope this is also a logical thought according to you?

The latest research shows that non-inclusive leadership is the worst thing we can use.

What happens when we focus on the wrong “things” and forget to include the People in our organization?

Look at this example:

As the attached picture shows, there was a real mess in Stockholm traffic in 1997, when Sweden decided to switch from left to right. We want to do the right thing, but then we have to be very clear about the change and which basic rules we have to follow. Everyone needs to understand and follow the framework of rules we as an organization have decided to follow. Yes, I’m back to the important culture and people in it. We have to have the right culture and we have to understand what we have today to be able to fix it.

Show some interest as a leader! It’s not all about technology and profit. People are what make it happen! We need to guide them (rules/value base/purpose) and listen to them. People must be seen!

How do you change a culture and do the right thing?

Yes, it’s about behaviors:

– STOP, we don’t drive on the left side! We will drive on the right side! Please act as we agreed!

– OK sorry!

Easy as pie?

Leadership is so important and that’s where we usually don’t get it in our organizations.

We promote people who are good at something other than being a leader.

We need to have better leadership and even if we call it servant leadership or something else, it is important that it is healthy leadership!

It is complex and we need to start working together and also understand how to collaborate. In a complex environment, this means that the right rules, how to work well together, which behaviors we want to advocate and Alf Grandien has in his research created what we call
